I would like to get the number of recharge cycles using bash (terminal commands). I understand the following command will display all of the battery data, but I want the cycle count on its own. Ioreg -l -w0 grep Capacity I use the following command to get the battery percentage, so I imagine it can be modified slightly to get the cycle count. Pictured above you can see the results from scanning my iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, and iPhone 8 Plus with coconutBattery. If you look at the far left picture, you can see that after about 207 charge cycles — a charge cycle is the use of 100% of the battery's capacity — my iPhone 6s Plus is only able to charge to just under 90% of the original battery capacity.

One of these hints is in the top-right corner of your MacBook screen, there is a battery icon that shows the life of your battery. In OS X 10.10 Yosemite, it will show you which apps are using the most battery life. If your battery is close to the end of it’s life, clicking this icon displays an error message saying “Service Now” or “Replace Now.'
If you are seeing these messages, then your battery is to the point where it needs to be replaced to get the most battery life out of your MacBook.
How to Determine How Many Charge Cycles my Macbook Battery Has
A cycle count is a way to measure the life of your battery, as every battery has a limited number of charges. A cycle count is measured by the battery draining 100% from fully-charged to fully-depleted. Now, it doesn’t mean only when the battery is fully drained 100% that it would count as a charge cycle, but rather if you use 25% of the battery one day and 25% another day - that would be a half cycle.
That being said, the way to check how many battery cycles your battery has is within About this Mac.
To find out this information on 10.7 OS X Lion or later, click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of the screen and select “About This Mac.” Next, click below where it says “System Report.” This brings up the application known as System Information. This app lists a bunch of information, but what we are looking for is the Power selection of this page. This is where we will find the battery health and cycle count of your Macbook.
(If on OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, click “About this Mac” from the Apple menu and then click “More Info” to bring up “System Information”)
Every MacBook model has a different amount of cycle counts that the battery is rated for before you will see expected lower battery life. The full list of cycle counts can be found from Apples website found here. The good thing about all of the new models of Apple laptops is that they are rated for 1,000 charge cycles - ensuring that you get the most out of your laptop.
